It's thoughtful and thought-provoking and I LOVE your homemade card. Your daughter is EDIBLE. Xmas for me... well, I love buying and giving presents - the book I think my Dad will love (and he does), the skirt from an op shop I know my daughter will love (and she does)... but yes, it can be stressful and forced too. I know families who have themes e.g. 'make it yourself' - but the thing is, I love the looking/finding/falling upon things - don't really care what I get back although nice books or things to do with my music are always welcome. And getting together with family on Xmas Day... well, that's a highlight for me - I am grateful they always want to come to us (the numbers range from 15-28 in any given year) - and that there's room and we eat and play and give presents. What I don't like is the lead up to Xmas, the insincere ' we must get togethers' - all that drinking - the parties - the stress - but I know it will end at Xmas itself - that shining day - and then such a lovely summer break when I read and read and write and write. Christmas' begin to rock - ...Good post Renee.

Christmas' begin to rock - again - when kids discover 'Santa.' Then, like many aspects of childraising, we become a child again through their eyes.

I had one of the most enjoyable Xmases in years last month when I got Serena to place milk and cookies by the door for Santa, and placed presents at the end of her bed.
Then I got to see her wide-eyed look of shock the next morning when she saw the former had gone and the latter waiting to be opened. She +totally+ bought it.

Amazing. And soooooo much fun. Then the present treasure hunt began around the house.Jon Walshnoreply@blogger.com
